Design Diary Sketchbook
This exercise documented our verbal and visual narratives of trees expressing different experiences, viewpoints, or interpretations of stories. We created a sketchbook of ten graphic compositions involving type and image visualizing our chosen story. I decided to showcase my experience with the novel Life of Pi by Yann Martel.
Sustainable Posters
Description
This exercise applied learned design principles regarding type and image compositions. We were to utilize these skills to visually express and convey our meaning or message in a practical visual communication design application - Poster Design.
Directions
We were to identify a visual theme for two posters' concepts and explore design studies for classroom discussions and reviews. My given visual theme for this project was "HUG A TREE."
Finals
These were the final renditions I ended up pursuing for the sustainable poster designs. I chose to focus on the photography and complimenting typography with minimal graphics to hold viewer attention. I also wrote a small message for the upcoming National Arbor Day at the time for them to act as awareness posters for the holiday.
Tree Storybook
Description
This project involved designing a progression of pages in book form, using an accordion fold structure. The range of compositions throughout the book include type and photographic images that flow in a rhythmic theme. This was a continuation of my given theme "HUG A TREE" and illustrated a story around the idea.
